    We have many missions at Brandeis Hillel—instilling pride in Jewish heritage, nurturing effective communicators. We are also in the business of growing scientists. How do we go about doing that? When our students do the research necessary to complete their Integrated Projects, they find that scientists come from all sorts of backgrounds. Marie Curie grew up in a Poland that forbade girls to attend school, but her passion to learn was too strong to obey that law. She went to secret, illegal schools. In contrast, Rachel Carson’s mother was her first teacher, often taking her for walks along a river that ran next to the family’s back yard. Clearly, there is no formula.

  • Daniel Meyer, Inspiring the BHDS Community with a Love of the Outdoors

    Daniel Meyer, Coordinator of Outdoor Education for Brandeis Hillel, is constantly on the go! His accomplishments include organizing the opening school year retreats for the middle school, coordinating the fourth through eighth grade outdoor education trips, leading Sunday morning hikes around the Bay Area, managing the school’s bus program, scheduling transportation for day trips for all grade levels, collaborating with the Director of the Enrichment Program, and advising on the San Francisco campus. As if this weren’t enough, Danny took on the major project of chairing the 2007 “Sukkot in Yosemite” planning committee for nearly 750 students, family, and faculty members.
