Outdoor Education
If children are to keep alive their inborn sense of wonder-they need the companionship of at least one adult who can share it, rediscovering the joy, excitement, and mystery of the world we live in."
— From Rachel Carson's A Sense of Wonder
Brandeis Hillel Day School had a vision and developed a unique program that places students where they best see, investigate, and learn about the environment-outdoors in nature. Both campuses share in exciting, age-appropriate, hands-on learning experiences for kindergarten through eighth grade students. Leaving campus for a one-hour nature walk or a five-night experiential program broadens the scope of lessons learned within the walls of BHDS and adds deeper meaning to our students' education. A cross-curricular approach integrates science with the arts, music, physical education, history, and Judaic studies. As a result, students learn content, as they develop independence and improve interpersonal skills. The outdoor education program reinforces Brandeis Hillel's Jewish values in a meaningful, memorable, and experiential way.
