By stepping out of the classroom for explorations of the Bay Area's rich and diverse natural resources, BHDS students build and strengthen their understanding of and appreciation for nature and the greater world. These outdoor experiences include community service learning projects.
Day Field Trips
Kindergarten through eighth grade students from Marin and San Francisco join together for daylong explorations and field trips. Destinations include Angel Island, the Golden Gate National Recreation Area, the Marin Headlands, and the Mt. Tamalpais region.
Overnight Trips
Leaving behind classrooms, books, and the comforts and security of home, our students in grades 4-8 embark with their teachers on extended overnight trips throughout California.
Hands-on, close-up environmental investigations; first-hand sightings of wildlife; and exploration of the geology and ecology of an area combine with discussions of human history to help shape the unique educational emphasis for each trip.
In addition, the trips link Jewish values, customs, and history to the location and the academic lessons, ensuring that students understand the vital connection between their people's heritage and the current lessons they are learning.
Activities to promote communication, cooperation, self-confidence, independence, problem-solving skills, and leadership qualities are intertwined with the outdoor curriculum at each grade level.
