ur Advisory Program is an integral component of our middle school curriculum and is designed to facilitate communication and provide support through teacher-advisors who serve as special advocates available to help with a problem or an emotional concern.

Small Groups
Comprised of 10-12 students and their faculty advisor, our Advisories meet daily for a brief morning check-in and then more in-depth once per week.  This supportive format allows students to examine their own values and behavior, share thoughts about school and age-related issues and gain interpersonal and thinking skills.

Our advisories focus on...

  • Easing the transition from lower school to middle school by working on school skills, study habits, organization, and social and academic problem solving (grade 6).  
  • Increasing self-awareness both individually and as a member of a group, improving interpersonal skills and increasing personal responsibility (grade 7). 
  • Providing support for the high school application process (including practicing interviewing and improving presentation skills), continuing to deepen self-awareness and interpersonal skills, and preparing for the departure from BHDS and the transition to high school (grade 8).
