We provide age-appropriate, hands-on, enriching technology opportunities to every student in the lower school. In the technology lab, students learn to enhance their general studies and creative projects using many tools, including computers, video and digital cameras, and software. Through lab and class time, students integrate these tools into other classroom projects.

Students Participate in Hour of Code

    Posted December 12, 2013

December 9-15 is Computer Science Education Week where students across the country participate in an hour of coding. By the end of the week, 10 million students are expected to have participated. At BHDS, technology specialist Leo Stern introduced computer science and programming concepts to all lower school students. Second grade students worked with an app called Blockly, which teaches young students the basics of coding. Third through fifth grade students watched a short programming video and then had a chance to learn code using the app Hopscotch. The students enjoyed manipulating Angry Birds and learning to code in their Hour of Code! MORE PHOTOS

Digital media and technology are evolving rapidly, and our students have access to these tools at increasingly younger ages. At BHDS, we're addressing this challenge through education, building skills and awareness in partnership with Common Sense Media, a non-profit, non-partisan organization dedicated to serving educators and families by providing trustworthy information, education, and an independent voice on topics related to media and technology. Common Sense Media provides a wealth of practical guidance for parents on topics ranging from cyber-bullying to the media's impact on a girl's body image (their website is a great resource).
