We provide age-appropriate, hands-on, enriching technology opportunities to every student in the lower school. In the technology lab, students learn to enhance their general studies and creative projects using many tools, including computers, video and digital cameras, and software. Through lab and class time, students integrate these tools into other classroom projects.

  • Kindergarteners Introduced to Computer Science through iPad App

    Kindergarteners have just begun their computer science curriculum and are being introduced to the concept of sequencing. Instructional technology and media speclialist Leo Stern began the lesson with an overview of what computer science is and what it helps computer programmers do. Then, using Kodable—an iPad app that teaches the basic concepts of computer science programming through game play—kindergarteners were tasked with getting their fuzzball character through a maze by providing a sequence of directional arrows.   • Second Graders Learn Programming, Create Sukkot Stories

    Second grade has been working this week on learning introductory computer programming skills using Scratch Jr., an iPad app created through a collaboration between the Developmental Technologies research group at Tufts University and the Lifeflong Kindergarten group at MIT. By using this app, the students are learning about the importance of sequencing to create computer programs. The students are working diligently to create Sukkot stories that will demonstrate some of the skills they have gained over the course of the week.
