Library Update - Summer Reading Gets a Head Start

I kicked off summer reading this year in a variety of ways. Kindergarten heard The Plant Sitter by Gene Zion. It is about a boy who takes care of his neighbors’ plants with astonishing results. Third grade heard the last book in a series by D. B. Johnson about Henry David Thoreau, which describes his love of nature and hiking. Our students loved the whole series and also saw, along with fourth and fifth grades, a YouTube video entitled Cain’s Arcade about a boy who makes an arcade out of cardboard boxes and has the surprise of his life. I highly recommend the whole family see this video. You will not be disappointed.

Stay tuned for my summer reading recommendations on the library website. Included is a list of series books and recommendations for apps for your iPhone or iPad.

Additionally, I will be upgrading our database, and it would be most helpful if all books were returned. I have sent emails reminding those of you who have outstanding books. If you find library books, it is possible they slipped through the cracks and were not checked out. Please return all library books so our selections will be in tip-top order for checkout in the fall.

I sincerely hope you have a wonderful summer that includes lots of reading.
