Performance/Visual Arts

In sixth through eighth grade, band, drama and art are electives. The band performs at school and community events and attends local productions including musical theater, plays, symphonies and opera.

In the drama elective students perform, as well as design scenery, costumes and props and may assist with choreography and lighting. Some years a musical production is chosen, in other years a drama is presented. Either way, it is always an exciting culminating event showcasing our students at their creative best!

The focus of the art elective changes each semester to allow an enhanced art experience. We offer electives in subjects like clay and ceramics, painting, glass mosaic, silk painting, drawing and sewing.

  • A Whole Lot of Art Going On

    Posted March 7, 2012

Our students in all grades have been working on multiple projects over the past few months. "Their creative output has been amazing," said Lisa Levy, art teacher. Among the many projects are the sixth grade letterboxing project, where students have learned to carve stamps and make books; a third grade exercise in manipulating clay into the portrait of a favorite cat or dog; third grade hand-drawn comic books; and a fifth grade collaborative project known as "the perfect school," where students work collaboratively to design the ideal structure based on addressing "needs" and answering questions until they get it right. "They are so excited and engaged by this project, which really draws from our work using design thinking process," added Levy. PHOTOS
