Insect Discovery Lab Visits First Grade
To celebrate the end of first grade's mealworm unit, the Insect Discovery Lab visited their classroom. The students were able to explore the lives of beetles, millipedes, walking sticks, whip scorpions, hissing cockroaches and more! Karen, the insect educator, introduced the first graders to the extraordinarily diverse world of insects and other arthropods and taught them about their key role in the web of life. Scientific observation, insect identification, and the natural history of bugs’ lives were just some of the areas Karen focused on. The first graders were mesmerized. The specimens were actually passed around so that each student could touch them and experience the awe and wonder of such unique creatures.
