BHDS Alumni in the News

  • A Successful First Social Media Fundraising Project: Thank You to Our Alumni and Their Families!

    Posted May 3, 2013

Last year, Brandeis Hillel Day School applied for and was accepted into the 2012-2013 Jewish Day School Social Media Academy, funded by the Avi Chai Foundation. This intensive program is designed to help Jewish Day Schools advance their strategic use of social media. As a component of our work, we recently completed a social media fundraising campaign that raised $15,948 for the school through the generosity of our alumni, their families and a match from the Avi Chai Foundation! We thank the following alumni and their families for their enthusiasm, generosity and support on this project....

  • Alumni Reunion Rekindles Memories

    Posted February 7, 2013

BHDS alumni aged 21 and over gathered in Cigar Bar on February 6 to share the warmth of friendships and memories and to catch up on recent news. For some, like Victoria Isaak, Susan Higuera Lerner, Alex Vaysberg, and Jeff Carvalho (all class of 1986), staying in touch has been easy: "We're still best friends—ever since graduating from Brandeis, we've been connected." Marin alums Erin (Meyers) Kahn, Ira Kaufman, and Jonas Schaefer can recall when the yearbook covered both campuses. For Casey Berman '88 and David Merin '85, current BHDS parents, there is a sense of l'dor vador—"from generation to generation."

"What a delightful evening!" commented Neal Biskar, middle school teacher and high school counselor, now in his thirty-fourth year at BHDS. "It's great catching up with everyone."

Many thanks to our enthusiastic alumnae chairs, Rachel Bernstein and Erin Kahn, for bringing everyone together!

From the JCC website: Khaled Hosseini (The Kite Runner, A Thousand Splendid Suns) has made a career out of writing about his native Afghanistan revealing the beauty and agony of this little-known part of the world to millions of readers. In 2006 he was named a goodwill envoy to UNHCR, the United Nations Refugee Agency, and has been providing humanitarian assistance in Afghanistan through The Khaled Hosseini Foundation. His new novel, And the Mountains Echoed, crosses continents from Kabul to Paris to San Francisco, exploring how we love, how we take care of one another, and how the choices we make resonate through generations.
